Military Appreciation Month: Honoring our Heroes
May is Military Appreciation Month, a time dedicated to recognizing and honoring the contributions, sacrifices, and service of our armed forces members, both past and present. America’s Credit Union (ACU) proudly joins the nation in celebrating this significant month, paying tribute to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.
Origins and Significance
Military Appreciation Month was officially designated by Congress in 1999 to ensure the nation had a dedicated time to publicly show appreciation for troops past and present. May was chosen because it includes several important military anniversaries and events, such as Loyalty Day, Victory in Europe (VE) Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day.

- Loyalty Day (May 1): This day reaffirms our loyalty to the United States and recognizes the heritage of American freedom.
- VE Day (May 8): Commemorates the end of World War II in Europe.
- Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 9): Honors the significant contributions and sacrifices of military spouses.
- Armed Forces Day (May 17): Celebrates all branches of the U.S. military.
- Memorial Day (May 26): A day of remembrance for those who have died in military service to the United States.
