Money Market Account

Your Balance Grows. So Does Your Rate.

Most bank savings accounts pay less than 0.5% APY. ACU's Money Market account earns tiered dividends on every dollar, with no monthly fee and no term to serve. The more you save, the more you earn, because you're an owner, not just a depositor.

A Bigger Balance Gets You a Better Rate

ACU's Money Market account uses a tiered dividend structure. Once your balance crosses the $2,500 threshold, every dollar earns the Guaranteed Money Market rate. No splitting accounts, no complex rules.

Money Market Account

Start earning dividends from day one. The standard Money Market rate applies to balances from $25 up to $2,499. No monthly fee, no minimum to maintain after opening, and full access to your funds anytime.

Not sure which tier fits? If your balance stays below $2,500, the standard Money Market still earns more than a Regular Share Savings account. When you build past $2,500, the Guaranteed rate kicks in automatically, no paperwork needed.

How the Money Market Compares

The Money Market sits between regular savings and share certificates: better rate than savings, full liquidity unlike a certificate. As of March 2025, money market accounts averaged 0.74% APY at credit unions versus 0.53% at banks, according to NCUA rate data.

Built for Owners, Not Depositors

At a bank, you're a customer. At ACU, every member is a part-owner, and that changes how your savings are managed.

No Monthly Fee

ACU's Money Market carries no maintenance fee. Every dollar you deposit stays working for you.

NCUA Insured to $250,000

All ACU deposits are federally insured by the NCUA, the credit union equivalent of FDIC coverage, up to $250,000 per ownership category.

Dividends, Not Interest

Banks pay interest to depositors. ACU pays dividends to member-owners. Your earnings reflect the credit union's performance, not a shareholder's margin.

Full Liquidity

No term, no penalty, no lock-in. Access your funds through online banking, the mobile app, or any branch whenever you need them.

Monthly Compounding

Dividends compound and post monthly. Your earnings start earning too.

Tiered Rates Reward Growth

As your balance grows, your rate grows with it. You do not need to open a new account or ask for a better rate. It applies automatically.

"I moved part of our emergency fund here after seeing what our old bank was paying. The rate is meaningfully better, and I still have full access. No fees, no surprises. That is all I needed."

Money Market FAQs

Answers to what members ask most when opening a Money Market account at ACU.

Both are liquid and NCUA insured. The key differences are rate and access rules. A Money Market account earns a higher tiered dividend rate, especially at balances above $2,500, in exchange for a limit of six pre-authorized transactions per month (such as recurring bill payments or transfers). A Regular Share Savings account has no transaction limits but earns a lower base rate. If you rarely dip into the account and want a better return, a Money Market is the better choice.
The Guaranteed Money Market is a promotional version that requires a $2,500 minimum balance. When your balance meets that threshold, you receive a higher dividend rate guaranteed for six months. After six months, you can re-guarantee at the then-current rate or the account reverts to the standard Money Market rate. New money only; limit one per member.
The standard Money Market opens with a $25 minimum deposit (the same as a Regular Share Savings account). To qualify for the Guaranteed Money Market rate from day one, you will need a minimum opening deposit of $2,500. Both accounts carry no monthly fee.
Yes. You can make unlimited deposits and in-branch or online transfers at any time. The only limitation applies to pre-authorized transactions, such as automatic bill payments, debit card purchases, or recurring transfers to outside accounts, which are capped at six per month by federal regulation. Most members never hit that limit.
If your Guaranteed Money Market balance drops below $2,500, your dividends revert to the Regular Share Savings rate for the period your balance is below the threshold. There is no penalty or fee. Once your balance returns to $2,500 or more, the Guaranteed rate applies again.
Yes. All ACU accounts require membership. Membership is open to people who live, work, worship, or attend school in the Pacific Northwest; active and retired military members and their families nationwide; members of the Association of the United States Army; and members of the Pacific Northwest Consumer Council. Membership begins with a $25 Regular Share Savings deposit.
