Your Savings Work Harder at ACU

Traditional bank savings accounts often pay less than 0.5% APY. At ACU, you're a member-owner, so your dividends are competitive, your deposits are NCUA insured up to $250,000, and there's no monthly fee to keep what you've earned.

Beyond the core savings lineup, ACU offers specialized accounts for families, seasonal goals, and medical expenses.

Built for Owners, Not Depositors

At a bank, you're a customer. At ACU, every member is a part-owner, and that changes how your savings are handled.

NCUA Insured Up to $250,000

Every ACU savings account is federally insured by the NCUA, the credit union equivalent of FDIC protection, up to $250,000 per account ownership category.

Dividends, Not Interest

Banks pay interest to depositors. ACU pays dividends to member-owners. Same concept, different relationship. Your earnings reflect the credit union's performance, not a shareholder's margin.

No Monthly Maintenance Fees

ACU savings accounts carry no monthly maintenance fees. The balance you deposit is the balance you keep, not minus a fee for the privilege of having an account.

24/7 Online and Mobile Access

Check balances, transfer between accounts, and deposit checks from the ACU Mobile App or Online Banking, any time, from anywhere. Branches are there when it matters most.

Multiple Accounts for Multiple Goals

Open multiple Regular Share Savings accounts and label each one for a separate goal: emergency fund, vacation, down payment. Keep goals separate so progress is visible.

Start From $1

Children's accounts open with $1. Regular Share Savings start at $25. Performance Saver starts at $10. There's no high minimum to put a barrier between you and a savings habit.

Savings Account FAQs

Answers to what members ask most when opening a savings account at ACU.

All ACU savings deposits are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to $250,000 per account ownership category. ACU is a federally chartered credit union, and NCUA insurance is the credit union equivalent of FDIC coverage at a bank.
The minimum depends on the account. Children's savings accounts open with $1. The Performance Saver requires $10 to open and a $10 monthly deposit. The Regular Share Savings account, which establishes your ACU membership, requires $25. Share Certificates start at $500.
A savings account is flexible. You can deposit and withdraw at any time, but rates are lower. A share certificate locks your funds for a fixed term (3 months to 4 years) in exchange for a higher, guaranteed rate, typically 10 to 30 times more than a standard savings account. Choose a certificate when you can leave funds untouched for a set period.
Yes. ACU members can open multiple Regular Share Savings accounts to separate different savings goals. For example, one for an emergency fund and one for a down payment. All accounts are managed from the same ACU Online Banking login.
At a bank, depositors earn interest. The bank is paying you to hold your money. At ACU, you're a member-owner, so your share of the credit union's earnings comes back to you as dividends. It's the same concept with one key difference: you own the institution that's paying you.
The Performance Saver is designed specifically for goal-based saving. The monthly deposit requirement turns saving from a one-time decision into an automatic habit, and the competitive APY rewards the discipline. If you have a larger balance or can commit funds for a set term, a Money Market or Share Certificate will likely earn more.

Money Market Ultra: minimum opening deposit and minimum balance of $2,500 required; guaranteed rate for 6 months; new money only; limit one per account; fees may reduce earnings. Share Certificates: early withdrawal penalty of up to 90 days of dividends may apply; see Truth-in-Savings Disclosure. HSA: consult your tax advisor for guidance on contribution limits and qualified expenses. All accounts federally insured by NCUA up to $250,000. America's Credit Union NMLS 449181.
