Certificate Term Deposit APY Dividends At maturity

When a certificate matures, you can take the money or renew it for the longest term in your ladder, so one comes due every interval.

Locked-In Rates, Without Locking Up Everything

A ladder keeps most of your savings earning a fixed rate while part of it comes due on a schedule you choose.

1

Split Your Deposit

Divide your savings across several certificates with different terms, such as 12, 24, 36, and 48 months.

2

Collect as They Mature

One certificate comes due at each step, so part of your money is available without an early withdrawal.

3

Renew or Use It

Spend what you need, or renew the maturing certificate for the longest term to keep the ladder going.

Questions Members Ask About Certificates

A share certificate is the credit union version of a CD (certificate of deposit). You leave a deposit in place for a set term, and in exchange the dividend rate is fixed until the certificate matures. ACU certificates are federally insured by the NCUA up to $250,000 per ownership category.
It grows your deposit at the APY you enter for the length of the term: deposit times (1 + APY) raised to the number of years. APY already includes compounding, and it assumes your dividends stay in the certificate until it matures and that you make no withdrawals. The dividend rate it shows is the monthly compounding rate that produces that APY.
A ladder splits one deposit into several certificates with staggered terms, for example 12, 24, 36, and 48 months. One certificate matures at each step, so part of your money comes due at regular intervals instead of all at once.
A ladder gives you regular access to part of your savings without an early withdrawal, and each maturing certificate can be renewed at the rates available at that time. The trade-off is that the shorter rungs may earn less than a single longer certificate would.
A penalty of up to 90 days of dividends may be imposed for withdrawals before a certificate matures, and it reduces your earnings. If you may need the money sooner, a ladder or a Money Market account keeps more of it within reach.
Standard and Flex certificates run from 3 to 48 months with a $500 minimum, and promotional certificates offer higher APYs on set terms with their own minimums; the calculator lists the current ones. IRA certificates hold retirement savings. See every option on our Share Certificates page.

Calculator Disclosures

These calculators produce estimates for educational purposes only and are not an offer, a rate guarantee, or financial advice. Results depend on the figures you enter and assume dividends remain on deposit until maturity and no withdrawals. Actual earnings may differ.

APY = Annual Percentage Yield. Prefilled APYs are America’s Credit Union’s current share certificate rates, effective October 1, 2026, as published on our deposit rates page, and are subject to change. Promotional certificates have the terms and minimums shown in the calculator; those with a $5,000 minimum are limited to $250,000 per member account. Standard certificates earn the APY for their term, with a higher APY on some terms for $25,000 or more. New money is funds not currently held on deposit at ACU.

A penalty of up to 90 days of dividends may be imposed for early withdrawal and will affect earnings. Fees could reduce earnings. Membership required. Federally insured by NCUA.
